Macca left EMI because their 'jaded view' bored him

Paul McCartney says he left EMI's Parlophone for Starbucks' Hear Music because the label's approach was jaded and confused in the digital era, and criticises Big Brother.

Paul McCartney has been talking about his decision to release his next album, 'Memory Almost Full', with Starbucks' recently stepped up music operation Hear Music rather than his label of 43 years, EMI's Parlophone. He says he left the major because he felt the people there were faltering in the digital era.

Macca told reporters: "I was bored with the old record company's jaded view. They're very confused, and they will admit it themselves - that this is a new world, and they're a little bit at a loss as to what to do. So they've got millions of dollars and X budget for them to come up with boring ways - because they've been at it for so long - to what they call 'market' it. And I find that all a bit disturbing. I write it, I play it, I record it, and that's all fun. And you go to the record company, and it gets very boring. You sit around in rooms with people, and you're almost falling asleep and they're almost falling asleep".

In not really all that related news, Macca has also been talking about Big Brother, and he was even less complimentary about that than he was about his former label. Asked about the uber reality show on its return to Channel 4, he told Xfm's breakfast show: "I studiously avoid Big Brother. I avoid it. I'm against the celebration of mediocrity. I'm sorry about that world because I know everyone loves it and loves to watch mediocre people. I just don't like all that stuff I'm afraid. It's really boring. I'd rather go round and see someone rather than sit in the corner and watch them".

Not that we're covering Big Brother here in the CMU Daily, it being a "celebration of mediocrity" and all, but we thought we might mention that the first male entered the otherwise female filled Big Brother house over the weekend, which is only vaguely related to pop news because said male, Zak 'Ziggy' Lichman, used to be in boy band Northern Line. Who were sort of a pop group, if I remember rightly.
