Word is the Universal Music Group are considering merging the imprint's staff and roster with its Geffen label because of concerns the MCA brand has lost its prestige. Whether Geffen would continue to operate as part of the Interscope Geffen A&M group, or whether it would strike off alone again isn't too clear.MCA used to be a parent company in its own right including imprints ABC Records, Chess Records and Geffen. But it was taken over by Seagrams in 1995 who rebranded the group Universal - artists signed directly to the parent label were transferred to the MCA imprint.
