Tradition dictates that when you win all the big awards at one year's Smash Hits Poll Winners Party, it means you will win all the 'Worst...' awards next year, such is the fickle nature of the Smash Hits faithful. All of which means that McFly are due for quite a panning at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party 2005.
But for the time being they can relish the glory of winning five top awards in the 2004 readers' poll - the McFly boys taking the gongs for Stars Of The Year, Best UK Band, Best Album, Best Video and, for Danny Jones, Most Fanciable Male, at the annual pop awards extravaganza at Wembley Arena yesterday.
Label mates Busted also did well, picking up three awards, while Kylie Minogue was voted into the magazine's Hall of Fame. Other winners (of awards you might want to win) included Rachel Stevens, Maroon 5, The Shapeshifters, Natasha Bedingfield , The Darkness and Eminem. On the less positive side Marilyn Manson won "Flop Pop Mop" while Will Young was named Worst Dressed Star, which hardly seems fair.
