Mean Fiddler opt for new site for Leeds Festival

Mean Fiddler will move the Leeds Festival to Bramham Park, its back-up site, despite having permission to stage it at Temple Newsam.

Despite getting permission to use the usual Temple Newsam site Mean Fiddler have decided to move the Leeds Festival to the back-up location of Bramham Park to safeguard the long term future of the festival. As reported last week, Mean Fiddler applied for a licence to stage the festival at both sites because of the local opposition in the Temple Newsam area after violence at the Festival in 2001 and 2002. Local authorities, however, were convinced stepped up security would suffice and gave the go ahead for a Temple Newsam festival - but Mean Fiddler boss Melvin Benn this weekend decided to go with the back-up site anyway. Benn told reporters: "There is an assured future for the use of the land at Bramham that the investment in infrastructure justifies. It offers the most beautiful of locations, is owned and managed by people aware of the difficulties the event has had - but committed to help eradicating them - is slightly further removed from local residents, and is in Leeds. I am very much looking forward to a fantastic event now."
