MPA and MCPS-PRS agree standard digital licensing agreement

The Music Publishers Association and MCPS-PRS have agreed a template for pan-European digital licensing, letting MPA publishers use MCPS-PRS as their online and mobile licensing agent.

More from MIDEM now. And more licensing stuff. It's all exciting stuff. The UK's Music Publishers Association and publishing royalty body MCPS-PRS have announced a partnership which will provide a 'one-stop pan-European digital licensing template'. What's that I hear you ask? Well, it's a template agreement that MPA affiliated publishers can use to engage MCPS-PRS as their Europe-wide online and mobile licensing agents, presumably designed to save music publishing firms the hassle of having to negotiate their own MCPS-PRS arrangement, presumably safe in the knowledge that the MPA approved arrangement will be suitably favourable.

Announcing the new arrangement, MCPS-PRS's MD Steve Porter said these words: "The contract we have developed together supports our aim to improve services for members and music users and supports the European Commission's plans for simplified online licensing across Europe".
