Murder Inc boss Irv Gotti has been arrested backstage at an R. Kelly concert in Oakland, California, for possessing ecstasy. The producer was arrested over the weekend for "possession of a controlled substance" but has subsequently been released on bail. According to Russ Giuntini of the Alameda County district attorney's office, Gotti was stopped at a security checkpoint backstage at the Network Associates Coliseum, where R. Kelly was performing, and police found a single MDMA tablet in his pocket.

The drugs offence is nothing when put next to the continuing federal investigations into accusations that Gotti and his record label are guilty of money laundering and fraud charges. If found guilty of the drugs crime it is likely the label boss would be mandated to appear in the county's drug diversion programme.
