NME launch US Awards

IPC and Goldenvoice are launching a US version of the NME Awards at LA's El Rey theatre on 23 April, with voting opening on NME.com on 24 March.

Media types IPC have announced a partnership with Coachella producers Goldenvoice which will see the launch of a US version of the NME Awards, which is a bit exciting. For the NME anyway. The US awards will work a little like the UK awards which were awarded in London last week, of course. Readers will vote for the gongs via NME.com, while the mag's editorial team will pick a Godlike Genius winner. The awards will take place at LA's El Rey theatre on 23 Apr, just before this year's Coachella Festival.

NME's Publishing Director Paul Cheal said this: "The NME Awards have been bringing together some of the biggest names in rock 'n' roll history for over 50 years in the UK. With a special line-up planned for the US as well, the US NME Awards are set to be the alternative rock 'n' roll party of the year. The arrival of the awards in the US not only allows us to build on our amazing heritage, but also to bring our biggest live event to a US audience that is using NME.com in ever greater numbers".

Voting will start on NME.com on 24 Mar.
