NME nominees announced

The Vines lead the NME Awards nominations with six, ahead of Coldplay with five and Oasis with four, with the ceremony taking place on 13 February.

Radio 1 yesterday announced the nominations for the NME Awards which take place on 13 Feb in London. The Vines came out top in number of nominations (six), followed by Coldplay (five) and Oasis (four). Then again The Vines are up for Worst Album, so they shouldn’t get too smug just yet.

The NME Awards, of course, used to be known as the Brats – a skit on the overly corporate Brits. These days, despite the comedy categories, they are less a political statement against corporate dominance at the Brits, and more just an indie version of the BPI’s awards – the Brits without the pop (pop acts, of course, dominating the ‘Worst’ categories, which kinda makes you wonder why they bother, like we need a Awards ceremony to tell us NME readers don’t like Atomic Kitten).

Anyway, while not quite competing with the Grammys in number of categories, there are lots of them, so we’ve put the full list of nominees at the bottom of today’s Daily.
