NME say The Cure are next Godlike Genius

NME will give The Cure its 2009 Godlike Genius award, and the band will play at the NME Awards in February, with Robert Smith promising a retrospective set.

NME have announced that The Cure will be the recipient of their 2009 Godlike Genius award, which is nice for them. The band will play live at the NMW Awards ceremony in Feb next year, and the band's Robert Smith has promised a retrospective set, telling NME.com: "I think it is a recognition of all The Cure has done over the years, so it would be pretty dumb to accept the award with a, 'Hey! Have you heard our new stuff?'. So we won't be doing that! It's all a question of balance. We are not going to turn up and start being weird! We'll play some new stuff, some old stuff and some stuff from in between, trying to distil 30 years into 30 minutes!"
