Time for some mindless surveys? Why not. Virgin Radio have polled more than 8300 listeners as to the best British song ever made. Strangely the Primitive's song 'Crash' (which, as we may have mentioned before, is the best song ever made) doesn't appear. However there are few other surprises in the top ten, except perhaps that Oasis beat Queen and The Beatles to the top spot. Top ten runs like this:
1. Oasis - Wonderwall
2. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
3. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
4. The Beatles - Let It Be
5. John Lennon - Imagine
6. Police - Every Breath You Take
7. The Jam - Going Underground
8. Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony
9. Robbie Williams - Angels
10. The Stranglers - Golden Brown
The station has released a full top 100, which include six entries from the Rolling Stones and David Bowie, five from Coldplay, but none from the Primitives - stranger and stranger. It was also a male artist dominated chart with only one song from a female artist - and it wasn't Kylie or Madonna - but Kate Bush with 'Wuthering Heights'. The only other women in the top 100 appeared as part of duos Yazoo and Eurythmics (Alison Moyet and Annie Lennox respectively, of course).
