Oasis top indie anthem poll

Oasis's Live Forever has been voted the greatest indie anthem in an Xfm and NME survey, ahead of Nirvana and Pulp, with Noel Gallagher commenting on the song.

I'm making no comment on this whatsoever, except that while I might not agree with the result, I have to admit Noel's given a rather nice quote about his winning song. Oasis' 'Live Forever' has been named the greatest indie anthem ever by voters in an Xfm/NME survey. Asked about the song, Gallagher N told reporters: "It was written in the middle of grunge and all that and I remember Nirvana had a tune called 'I Hate Myself And I Want To Die' and I was like 'Well, I'm not having that'. I can't have people like that coming over here, on smack, saying that they hate themselves and they wanna die. That's just rubbish".

The top ten songs in the Xfm/NME indie anthem survey were as follows:

1. Oasis - Live Forever

2. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

3. Pulp - Common People

4. The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

5. The Libertines - Don't Look Back Into The Sun

6. The Libertines - Time For Heroes

7. The Smiths - How Soon is Now?

8. The Stone Roses - I Am The Resurrection

9. The Strokes - Last Nite

10. Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
