Paul Weller signs to V2

Paul Weller has signed to Virgin-owned independent V2 after leaving Sony-supported Independiente, with Richard Branson calling it a long-held ambition.

After his departure from Sony supported Independiente earlier this year, and his subsequent rant against the major labels, Paul Weller has just signed V2. Some reckoned he would opt for the every expanding label division of the Sanctuary group, but in the end he decided to opt for the Virgin owned independent.

Announcing the deal Branson admitted that Weller was one of the acts he has most longed to sign during his 30-years as a label boss: "There were two established acts that I had always wanted to sign. I managed to fulfil my dreams with the Rolling Stones after some 20 years of trying. Paul Weller may have taken a little longer, but it is all the more satisfying as a result. Everybody at V2 is over the moon to be working with him."
