Prince gets Web award

Prince will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Webbys next week, recognising his early use of the internet for music distribution.

Prince will win a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Webbys next week - the Webbys being the "Oscars of the internet" of course. The Webbys are honouring Prince for being on it with all things internet way before the rest of the music business. Awards founder Tiffany Shlain explains: "Long before MySpace and iTunes, Prince used the web as a new way to distribute music, premiere videos and build his relationship with his fans". Prince was, I'm pretty sure, the first artist to release a complete album exclusively online with 1997's 'Crystal Ball'.
