Radio 1 Worldwide Awards next week

Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards take place at KoKo in Camden on 12 December, with performances and guest DJs, and winners broadcast on Radio 1 on 18 and 25 December.

I've been meaning to report on this one for ages now. Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Music Awards take place on 12 Dec at KoKo in Camden, with two editions of Peterson's Radio 1 show dedicated to celebrating the winners on 18 and 25 Dec. The awards will be hosted by Gilles and Earl Zinger, with guest performances from Japan's Soil & "Pimp" Sessions and New Zealand's Fat Freddie's Drop, plus twenty guest DJs including Jazzanova, Bugz in the Attic, Norman Jay and Charlie Dark, will all spin their favourite 'Worldwide track of the year'. The winners of the listener voted Worldwide Music Awards will also be revealed on the night.

Commenting on the awards, Gilles told CMU: "We have been doing the Worldwide Winners on Radio 1 for a good few years now and it gets a huge response from listeners. Last year we took it to the next level with the first physical event at Cargo with performances from SA RA among others. This year the event comes from the much larger venue KoKo with a killer line-up. I'm delighted that this annual event has become a fixture in the musical calendar. My main aim is to draw attention to the musical scene that is championed every week on 'Worldwide'."
