Who would have thought it - a gap in the musical knowledge of team CMU. It had to happen eventually. Of course if Marc was here this morning I bet he'd have heard of them. He's heard of everyone. Anyway, Dream Theater are [a] one of the most commercially successful progressive metal bands ever, [b] planning to release their tenth album this year and [c] a band no one here has ever heard of. And they've just signed to Roadrunner Records, who will release that tenth studio album in June this year, while the band themselves undertake a world tour including a load of festival performances.
On the new album, drummer Mike Portnoy told CMU (us being big fans of the band, he was straight on the phone as soon as things were confirmed): "This album's got all of the elements we've become known for. The focus on musicianship, the skull-crushing riffs, the big progressive epics and the heart-wrenching melodies. We've got one of the strongest and most devoted fan bases in the world, and they should certainly be happy with the new material. By working closely with the label we hope to turn a great many new heads, too".
Roadrunner A&Rs Derek Oliver & Dante Bonutto added: "Dream Theater and Roadrunner Records have led parallel careers on the cutting edge of metal for many years. We're thrilled to be working with a genuine market-leader, and when you add everything the guys bring to the table to the independent spirit and work ethic of the label, the results can only be exciting in the extreme!"
