Corporate synergy news anyone? Moves within the Sony group to foster greater synergy between its various divisions in a bid to gain a new hold on the digital music sector seem to be really having an impact. Following the launch of a Walkman phone earlier this month (bringing together the group's music player and mobile functions), now both SonyBMG and Sony Ericcson are working together on a promotion.
The two Sony businesses are working with Orange on a promotion involving SonyBMG artist Jamiroquai. The promotion will be based specifically around the purchase of the Sony Ericsson K600i 3G handheld phone, and will give Orange customers with that handset access to exclusive Jamiroquai audio and video downloads, all delivered over Orange's 3G-based network.
Similar promotions involving Sony's mobile and electronics companies, its download platform Connect and record label SonyBMG are expected in the near future as the group tries to better compete with Apple in the digital music space.
