Tatu: bans (or not) and lawsuits

Russian songwriter Sergey Galoyan is suing Tatu's label Polydor, claiming he wrote the number one track, while the BBC denies banning the video.

As if Richard and Judy trying to ban them wasn’t enough, now the chart topping lesbian pop duo Tatu are being sued by Russian songwriter Sergey Galoyan who says he wrote and produced their number one track. Galoyan is only credited for writing the music – not for the lyric or production duties – which will affect the royalties he receives.

Speaking to The Sun he says: "I originally called it 'I Lost My Mind' and it sounds exactly like the version on the radio now. I'm very angry about the way I have been treated because I feel cheated. It's not about the money. I'm proud of the song and I want the recognition I deserve."

The legal action is actually being taken against the duo’s record label Polydor – though at this stage neither Polydor or parent company Universal Music have commented.

Meanwhile – back to that ban. As we reported on Monday, Richard and Judy are calling for the video to 'All the Things She Said' to be banned after the duo's manager admitted it was an "underage sex project" designed to appeal to men in search of "underage entertainment". Madeley described the pop duo as "sick", while Finnigan denounced them as "paedophilic entertainment". Supporting Richard and Judy’s campaign the child protection charity Kidscape described the act as "pathetic" adding that child pornography was not a laughing matter.

But amid all this debate the BBC has denied it has banned the video – even though it won’t be screened on this Friday’s Top of the Pops. "We have not banned it," a BBC spokeswoman told reporters. "We are not showing it this week because we have access to a number of never-seen-before versions of Tatu's live performances."
