The Police win at Billboard Touring Awards

The Police took the Top Grossing and Top Ticket Selling Tour awards at the Billboard Touring Awards, with Live Nation's Arthur Fogel crediting pent-up demand.

More US awards, this time on a live music theme - the Billboard Touring Awards - and The Police dominated taking the Top Grossing and Top Ticket Selling Tour Of 2007 awards.

Commenting on the win, Arthur Fogel of the tour's producers Live Nation told reporters: "Clearly there was pent-up demand from 20 plus years of them not touring and the fact that they were, when they split up in the mid-80s, at their peak and they were very prolific and very successful. But none of those factors could be taken for granted and from day one it was determined that a high-profile launch was needed to ensure the tour was successful".

Other winners at the awards were Justin Timberlake, who took the Breakthrough Award for his Futuresex/Loveshow tour, the UK's Download Festival which was named Top Festival and Madison Square Garden which won Top Arena.
