Tony Wilson street for Manchester proposed

A street in central Manchester could be renamed in honour of Factory Records chief Tony Wilson, with Tony Wilson Way and other options under council consideration.

A street in central Manchester is set to be re-named in honour of late Factory Records chief Tony Wilson who, of course, died earlier this year. The proposal is to rename Whitworth Street West, the road where Wilson's legendary Hacienda club used to be. Tony Wilson Way, Anthony H Wilson Way or Wilson Street West have all been proposed in plans now being considered by the city council.

A council spokesman told the Manchester Evening News that the proposals still need to go through the procedure required for such things, though they are confident the idea will win support. The spokesman said: "We need two thirds of people to agree but I have gone round all the blocks and I am confident people will want to make history on that street".
