Universal promote digital man

Universal Music Group International has promoted Rob Wells, formerly Divisional Director for Digital, to Senior Vice President Digital, overseeing its international digital strategy including mobile.

Universal Music Group International has announced that the company's key new media man has been promoted to a new Senior Vice President Digital role. Rob Wells, formerly Divisional Director for Digital, will oversee all aspects of UMGI's digital strategy in his new job, including mobile. And the company says his appointment "completes an important phase in the integration of the company's new media and mobile units into the Digital division, which began earlier this year".

Confirming the appointment, UMGI top bloke Lucian Grainge told CMU (well, actually, he emailed over a statement, but this was about a Digital job appointment, so that's to be expected): "Rob has been a digital pioneer at Universal Music UK, pushing the company - and the industry - forward through innovation and dedication. He and his team have produced significant results, supporting our entire artist roster with industry-leading promotion and marketing. Now Rob has the opportunity to work with our companies worldwide to take it all further. He's a great guy and he deserves this promotion."

Rob himself added: "My upgrade is as exciting as it will be challenging. I'm looking forward to driving the international digital business forward for Universal Music, as well as unlocking the opportunities that the less digitally developed territories provide."
