Universal under new US criminal investigation

The New York attorney's office has launched a criminal investigation into Vivendi Universal, parent of Universal Music, which says it will cooperate fully.

French based entertainment major Vivendi Universal, parent company of Universal Music, which has had serious financial strife since reports of false accounting, now faces new investigations into its business operations, this time in the US. The New York attorney's office has launched a criminal investigation into the company. Details of the investigations are patchy, though it could well be into new allegations that the company, under former chief exec Jean-Marie Messier, issued misleading financial information.

A statement from Vivendi said the company "intends to cooperate fully" with the inquiry.
