Vivendi drop the Universal

Vivendi Universal is renamed Vivendi, fulfilling a 2004 commitment to NBC, while the Universal Music Group keeps the Universal name until 2029.

One for those who like to get their company names right. Vivendi Universal, the parent company of the Universal Music Group, will from this point onwards be known simply as Vivendi. The change, confirmed last week, fulfils a commitment made to NBC when Vivendi sold them the Universal film and TV business back in 2004.

The change will effect the group's gaming division, formerly Vivendi Universal Games, and now known as Vivendi Games. The Universal Music Group, however, will continue to use the Universal name - that 2004 agreement with NBC allowing the music division of Vivendi to do so until 2029, which is quite a long way away.
