Warner IPO possible for next April

Warner Music may float as early as April next year, according to the Financial Times, and insiders expect a merger with EMI to follow any IPO.

There were more reports in the never-dull Financial Times yesterday suggesting a Warner Music flotation may well take place sooner rather than later. Good news for, erm, flotation fans.

Rumours have been rife that the major label's new owner Edgar Bronfman Jr and his investors - Thomas Lee Partners, Bain Capital and Providence Equity Partners - would look to take the company public sooner rather than later - latest reports suggest it may happen as early as next Apr. The FT quotes a source as saying: "Warner Music wants to be in a position where an IPO is a clear option early next year, possibly in April."

The same report once again claims Warner have been talking to EMI about a possible merger. Such a move would create a company of similar size to Universal Music and the recently merged SonyBMG. While both sides deny they have entered any kind of merger talks, insiders seem pretty sure some kind of deal would be very likely after Warner's IPO.
