Critics seem to be divided on Microsoft's iPod competing Zune Player, which launched in the US recently of course. But some industry types are starting to suggest that, whatever the reviews, the good old American public are pretty disinterested in Microsoft's new toy. Although the IT firm say that sales of the player are on track with their expectations, Bloomberg noted this week that the Zune is currently #18 in Amazon's MP3 player sales chart, having never got higher than #7. All of which is making some cynics say that Microsoft's expectations must have been pretty low if they are being met. Though, it has to be said, bosses there did seem pretty realistic regarding the challenge ahead of them in taking on Apple in the digital music market, and they did seem to be in it for the long haul. So, it is very possible Microsoft expected a very slow start to their Zune ambitions.
