Fresh from winning the Play Next Rising Award at the Rolling Stone UK Awards, Scotland’s Brooke Combe stands out as a soulful trailblazer, drawing on classic 70s grooves with the promise of reigniting the UK’s love for old-school soul.

Her latest single, ‘This Town’, is a defiant rejection of goldfish-bowl living in her hometown. Opening with a flurry of percussion and a jangling electric guitar riff, the track channels the spirit of Northern soul, while her vocals, with their old-soul depth, feel as though they pre-date her.

Shot in her hometown Dalkeith and directed by Sam Crowston, the video captures the dual essence of small-town Scotland: charming but ultimately confining. “I wanted the video to feel as authentic as possible”, Coombe shares. “It shows the charm of where I grew up but also highlights the struggle of breaking away from the norm”.

‘This Town’ offers an exciting preview of Combe’s debut album, ‘Dancing At The Edge Of The World’, out 31 Jan and produced by James Skelly of The Coral.
