Born in Manhattan to French-Italian-Spanish parents, raised between New York and Paris, kicked out of school in her teens, and having taught herself guitar while living in Bristol, Chloé Caillet’s route into dance music was all-embracing.
She studied jazz piano in the English countryside, moved back to New York in her twenties, and found herself in the right city at the right moment: LCD Soundsystem and DFA Records were reshaping what dance music could be, and Caillet carried her classical and rock background straight into the DJ booth. She mixes in key, thinks in harmonics, and her music is bubbly and beautiful for it.
New single 'Bad Bara' is warm, playful house; rolling bassline, shimmering synths, the kind of track that channels a dance festival daytime set in the sun, which is exactly where Caillet tends to be.
It follows a run that includes a UK top 20 hit with Jocelyn Brown and a Beatport number one, sets at Coachella, the Met Gala and the Paris Paralympics closing ceremony, and an upcoming launch of a monthly residency on BBC Radio 1 Dance.
She also runs SMIILE, a queer-centred club night and label centered around inclusivity, liberation and shared experience on the dancefloor. It’s a lot to have going on, but it’s harmonious and the get-up-and-go passion oozes out of her music.
UK dates include Creamfields on 28 Aug and Lost Village on 30 Aug.
