Donna Summer among first artists heading for Dance Music Hall of Fame

Donna Summer, the Bee Gees and Giorgio Moroder are among the first inductees into a new Dance Music Hall of Fame, to be honoured in New York.

Donna Summer, the Bee Gees and producer Giorgio Moroder will be among the first artists to be inducted into a new Dance Music Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York later this month. They are among the artists chosen by a panel of 1000 dance music professionals to receive the honour. The tracks 'Don't Leave Me This Way' and 'Shame' will also be inducted.

Moroder, of course, was the producer who worked with Donna Summer on the 1974 hit 'Love To Love You Baby'. By remixing that track into a 17-minute epic Moroder created the concept of the extended dance mix.

Announcing the launch of the Dance Music Hall Of Fame, one of its board members, Tommy Boy founder Thomas Silverman, told reporters: "Since the beginning, the dance music genre has been largely ignored and dismissed by most of the music industry press and other music industry professionals. Through the Dance Music Hall of Fame we will be able to give proper credit to these great music industry pioneers."
