MSN to point music buyers to Zune or Rhapsody

MSN Music will reportedly stop selling digital music itself and point US users to Microsoft's Zune Marketplace or Real Networks' Rhapsody, under the two firms' partnership.

Word has it that MSN Music, in the US at least, will very soon stop selling digital music itself and will, instead, offer users of its music services the option to buy tracks from either Microsoft's new proprietary download platform, the previously reported Zune Marketplace, or from Real Network's Rhapsody service (Real's download platform, which is yet to launch over here). Quite how the latter will work isn't clear, because Real's priorities are more related to their subscription service than a la carte downloads. But the link through to Rhapsody is all part of that previously reported partnership between Real and Microsoft that came about after the out of court settlement of a long fought legal battle between the two firms.
