New York firm KKR makes $50.8bn takeover offer for Vivendi

Private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts reportedly offered $50.8 billion for Vivendi, owner of Universal Music Group, though talks faltered over French tax status.

More takeovers. Well, a nearly takeover, to be precise. Reports suggest that New York based private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts last month offered $50.8 billion to take over French conglom Vivendi who, of course, own the Universal Music Group. Apparently "serious talks" took place between Vivendi chiefs and KKR, but things faltered because a takeover by a US firm would mean the group would lose its favourable tax status in France. And you don't want to be losing favourable tax status, do you?
