Sony Music signs Musiwave deal for original-recording ringtones

Sony Music Europe has agreed a deal with Musiwave to offer ringtones using original recordings from over one hundred Sony artists through mobile networks.

Sony Music Europe have announced an agreement with Musiwave which will allow them to make ringtones available which include original recordings of songs from the Sony catalogue. Music from over one hundred Sony Music artists will be available through Musiwave, with plans to extend the range of available repertoire in the future. These Musitones will be available through all the usual suspects - T-Mobile, Vodafone etc.

Tony Martin, vice president of eMedia, Europe & UK, Sony Music said: "As the technology develops - the capabilities of the handsets and greater bandwidth of the networks - we are now able to give consumers the quality they want. We can now deliver excerpts from the master recordings - that means the original music as the ringtone. Delivering the song itself to handsets is a huge leap forward and benefits our artists whose music is now legitimately available through the mobile channel."
