The Donnas set up their own label with Redeye Distribution

According to Billboard, US rock chicks The Donnas have set up their own label, a joint venture with Redeye Distribution, following their departure from Atlantic. They plan to release their next album in mid-September. The band had been through talks with other majors over a possible deal, but ultimately wanted more control over their work and more profit from their records, says the report. The new deal will guarantee them a 50/50 split of sales, but only includes distribution through North America, meaning the band will have to look for international distributors.

On their new material, bassist Maya Ford says: "I wouldn't say we did much of anything different after leaving Atlantic, though it helped that we had more time than we've ever had before to write it. It was very liberating not to have a deadline. We've always loved bands like Cinderella and [Motley] Crue, but we also always enjoyed pop music. We haven't deliberately moved in any direction".
