Oslo-raised, Berlin-based, with a Brazilian father and a Berklee degree, Charlotte Dos Santos draws on samba, bossa nova, jazz and neo-soul with the ease of someone who grew up with all of it. You can tell she relishes following her own creative intuition, which is why she’s had comparisons to Solange. Think Minnie Riperton’s range and delicacy applied to something more contemporary.

New single ā€˜Roses’ is a good place to start, richly textured lush, cinematic chamber soul, with a slightly psychedelic-jazz arrangement. There’s a striking confidence in her delivery throughout, rich, poised and luminous even at its most tender moments.

ā€œIt’s a song about a haunting love that still lingersā€, she says, ā€œa love that has frozen but isn’t forgotten, leaving only memoriesā€. The production earns that description.

Four albums in and she still feels like a well-kept secret. That should probably change.
